Getting started with Costtell

Last updated: September 17, 2026

What Costtell does

Costtell is a free tool that accepts a single line from a cloud billing report — AWS, Azure or GCP — and returns a plain-language explanation of the service that generated the charge, how its pricing works, and what typically drives the cost up. It is a translation tool for cryptic billing lines, not a cost management platform.

How to use it

1. Sign in at costtell.agen2ic.ai/app with your email address. A free account is required — no credit card, no payment.

2. Open your cloud billing report (AWS Cost and Usage Report, Azure billing CSV, or GCP bill). Find the line you do not understand.

3. Select the line, copy it verbatim, and paste it into the Costtell input field. Press enter or click Explain this charge.

4. Read the explanation. You can copy it to your clipboard, or it is saved to your history for later reference.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Q. What exactly do I paste?
Paste a single line from your billing CSV or report — one row, copied verbatim. For example, “Amazon EC2 t3.medium Instance” or “Azure Virtual Machines D2s v3”. You do not need to edit or format it. If the line is from a different provider or contains a custom SKU, Costtell will show a fallback message rather than inventing a service name.
Q. Which cloud providers are supported?
AWS, Azure, and GCP — the three major public cloud providers. Costtell ships with 25+ curated billing patterns covering the most common services for each (EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda, RDS … Azure VM, Blob, SQL … GCP Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery …). Each provider also has a catch-all pattern for lines the curated set does not cover.

Custom or smaller providers (DigitalOcean, Linode, Hetzner, etc.) are not supported.
Q. Why do I need an account if the tool is free?
Your lookups are saved to your account so you can refer back to them later. The product is designed for one person decoding their own bill — the account is how the record belongs to you. Without an account, nothing would persist between visits.

The fleet’s shared auth host (auth.agen2ic.ai) handles sign-in. Costtell itself never sees your password.
Q. What happens if Costtell does not recognise the line?
You will see a fallback message naming the provider (AWS, Azure or GCP) and linking to that provider’s billing console. Costtell never invents a service name or pricing detail.

Unrecognised lines are most common when (a) the service is from a small or obscure SKU not yet in the curated set, or (b) the wording in your bill varies from the pattern the tool expects — billing descriptions differ by region and can change between billing cycles.
Q. Can I save or share my lookups with a team?
No. Costtell is a single-person tool. There are no team workspaces, shared history views, approvals, or sharing links. If you sign in, only you can see your own lookup history. There is no way to share a lookup with another account.
Q. How do I delete my data?
There is no self-service delete endpoint yet. To request deletion of your account and all associated lookup history, email costtell@agen2ic.ai. Because no legal entity has been registered for this product, this is a statement of intent rather than a legally binding guarantee — the operator will action deletion requests promptly.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

What Costtell does not do

Costtell is deliberately narrow. Here is what falls outside its scope — some of these are design decisions, others are things not yet built:

CONTACT

How to reach us

Routine questions about using the tool, understanding an explanation, or account access can be directed to:

Email: costtell@agen2ic.ai
agen2ic.ai accepts mail at any local part, so this address reaches a human and identifies that it is about Costtell.

Response time: None guaranteed — this product has no support SLA. The operator will respond as soon as possible.

Escalations

If your question involves a request for new features, a complaint about an inaccurate explanation, a legal concern, or anything that requires a decision the front-line support cannot make, it will be forwarded to the product owner. You will receive a reply at the same email address when the owner has responded.

Before emailing, try the decoder tool — most questions are answered by pasting the line and reading the explanation.
