CLOUD BILL DECODER

Paste a line.
Read what it costs.

One cryptic charge in your AWS, Azure or GCP bill. Paste it here.
Get back a plain explanation of what generated it and what usually drives the cost up. No dashboard, no team, no workflow — just a translation.

01 / WHAT IT DOES — AND FOR WHOM

One question, one answer.

You are the one person who has to explain every line of the cloud bill. Costtell takes one line — pasted verbatim from your billing report — and returns a readable explanation of the service that generated it, how the pricing works, and what typically drives the number up.

How Costtell works: paste a bill line, match it against curated billing patterns, get back a readable explanation.

02 / HOW IT WORKS

Three steps, no setup.

  1. 01

Copy a line from your bill

Open your AWS Cost and Usage Report, Azure billing CSV, or GCP bill. Find the line you do not understand. Select it and copy it.

  2. 02

    Paste it into Costtell

The input field accepts any line — service name, SKU description, usage type. Paste it verbatim, no editing needed. Press enter or click the button.

  3. 03

    Read the explanation

The tool returns what the service is, how its pricing works, and what usually drives the cost up. Copy the explanation or save it to your history for later.

03 / WHAT A RESULT LOOKS LIKE

From opaque to plain.

A line that reads like noise in your CSV becomes a couple of paragraphs you can act on.

Amazon EC2 t3.medium Instance
Decoded explanation
This charge is for an Amazon EC2 virtual machine instance. EC2 pricing is based on instance type (vCPU, memory, network performance), purchasing option (On-Demand, Reserved, Spot), and operating system. Key cost drivers: instance hours (higher utilization = more hours), EBS volumes attached to the instance, data transfer out to the internet, and optional features like Elastic IPs or Load Balancers.

04 / WHAT IS COVERED

Three providers, real patterns.

Costtell ships with 25+ curated billing patterns covering the most common services. Each explanation is hand-written, not generated.

05 / WHAT IT CANNOT DO

Honest about its edges.

Costtell does one thing. Here is what falls outside that one thing:

06 / A THING YOU MIGHT WONDER

“Could I just Google this?”

You could — if you know the exact service name and you want to dig through AWS docs, community threads, and pricing pages for each line. A bill often has forty. Costtell gives you the answer in the terms your bill uses, in one round trip, without switching tabs.

Q. What if the line is not recognized?

Costtell falls back to a general message naming the provider (AWS/Azure/GCP) and linking to their billing console. The tool never invents a service name. If you see unrecognized, the charge is either from a service not yet catalogued, or the wording in your bill differs from what the tool expects — service descriptions vary by region and can change between billing cycles.
